I recently bought at auction a 4wd 1997 Predator 425 backhoe. It runs and works ok in 2wd, but the front left c-v joint is pretty demolished. There is a rubber boot that is torn up. Inside the boot there appears to be two small greasy u-joints (similar to on a pickup truck drive shaft) in line with connecting parts missing. When driving the backhoe, I can see through the torn boot and watch the disconnected c-v joint rotate along side the adjacent rotating wheel hub.<br> The prior owner was at the aution and told me that the Predator co. is out of business and was taken over by Earth Force, and that parts are identical. We have a local dealer who happens to deal with Earth Force bachoes. The front axle on their comparable machine appears different on the outside - all cast iron with no exposed rubber boot. I don't know if the inner u-joints are alike or not. A couple local dealers,including one who deals with Earth Force, said they can't help. I have no manuals, but my next step would be to see if I can get it apart and take the damaged pieces around to different equipment dealers or repair shops. I'm not looking forward to what might turn out to be a fruitless waste of time.<br> Any advice would be appreciated.

I hired an excavator once who had one. He swore by it as a very powerful and manuverable small machine. Its a 4wd articluating loader made in the 80's. I believe it weighs about 7000 lbs and is about 66" wide. The biggest drawback I know about it is that the cab is very cramped. I was looking for one to purchase, but ended up getting a used Allmand backhoe instead, which is about half the weight and only 2wd.

Anybody know of a LB-620 for sale in Philadelphia vicinity? (within a 100 miles) This is a 66" wide compact articulating loader/backhoe made in the 80's with with 4 equal size tires.

Thanks, Murf, for the tips. I'll start with new hydraulic fluid and filter. By the way, can anyone confirm that it's ok to mix in used hydraulic fluid and or gear oil with used motor oil for recycling? I heard it's commonly done.

I'm looking for a removable 72" tooth bar for a wheeled loader to help in excavating packed dirt. I came across several messages on tooth bars and sources earlier, but I can't seem to find them again. Anybody know any good sources?
